Being a superhero fan, it’s natural I’m into superhero movies.
Continuing his slow tease of the upcoming The Batman feature film, director Matt Reeves today gave us the biggest – and coolest – official glimpse yet into the new film. That’s right. Batman has a sweet, sweet new ride.
Matt Reeves revealed a trio of dark but intriguing pictures of the new Batmobile today on his official Twitter account:
Perhaps the most striking feature of the new Batmobile is how much it harkens back to the classic iteration of the car. In that, it’s a car. The last couple Batmobiles have been more tanks and quasi-military attack vehicles. The Tumbler started off as a military prototype before Bruce Wayne ‘borrowed’ it in Batman Begins, and the Batmobile in the DCEU films was just, a lot. Even the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher films, with their baroque stylings, presented a version that was more a jet-car.
While it’s too soon to tell based on these photos, this version is the most car-like in a long time. This version has the telltale fins, a link back to the Adam West version, perhaps. We know from leaks that this won’t be the only ride that Bruce Wayne gets around Gotham in. A very stylish, and likewise simplified, Bat-Bike was spotted in Glasgow, where the film is currently in production.
The Batman is set to be released on June 25, 2021 by Warner Bros. This film charts a new course for the DC films, moving away from the Ben Affleck Batman, while still – presumably – remaining in continuity somehow. That part is still to be determined.
