June 3rd and 4th I attended my first ever comic book convention – as an author!
It was a fantastic, educational experience and I thought I’d share some thoughts from it. Overall, I enjoyed myself a lot. I met so many new readers, aspiring writers, and fellow authors like Jeri Shepherd Author, Ben Wolf, and more! I participated in some fantastic author panels, learned a ton, and received the kindest compliments (though most were directed at the great cover art on my books, so I told a TON of people about the one and only Al Hess).
HUGE thanks to my brother Aaron, who helped me tremendously behind the booth as well as in the planning and execution. I couldn’t have done it without him. I made money on the table, enough to sign up for Des Moines Con 2024! Though some aspects of the show proved challenging, I left eager to apply what I learned, to keep introducing my books to readers, and meeting aspiring writers.
I will continue to make appearances in 2023 – more to come but definitely look for me 7/30 at College Square Mall in Cedar Falls, IA. Hopefully, I’ll have more details on other events soon. I’ll leave you with some sketches made by the wonderful Jen Sample, my con neighbor, who drew Kit and Idari.
