Though it’s short, Bloodback has plenty of story and world-building to spare, from a dive back into the world of the black markets to a fascinating new figure in the Empowered pantheon who defies easy categorization. But in the end, the appeal here once again is Kit herself, who continues to evolve beyond where we left her at the end of Ever the Hero.

I really appreciate that the books are resonating with people, especially at times like these. Kit faces bleak circumstances and sometimes feels very isolated, but her story is one of connecting even when it seems impossible.
